In this series I grapple with the contradictions of embracing my fat Black body in opposition and defiance to a world that has communicated to me from birth that bodies like mine should not exist in the framework of normative beauty standards while also embarking on intentional weight loss as a personal necessity. This series memorializes my body, and is an expression of gratitude, love and appreciation to this body, and an act of solidarity to those who fight for body acceptance on all fronts.
